Bookkeeping for Consultants & Professionals
We help established consultants and professional service businesses in Vancouver with their bookkeeping, accounting and tax — along with practical advice and ongoing support when questions come up.
A simpler business deserves better than complicated accounting.
A Simple Business Can Still Have Important Questions.
Consulting and professional service businesses can look simple from the outside. There may be no inventory, storefront or expensive equipment. Often, the business is built around your time, expertise and relationships with clients.
But there are still important decisions behind the numbers.
How should you pay yourself? Should you incorporate? Which expenses belong in the business? What happens when you pay something personally? How much should you be setting aside for tax?
The bookkeeping may be straightforward. The decisions around it aren't always.

We work best with established service-based businesses looking for reliable support throughout the year—not just help during tax season.
Typical Business Size: We are generally the best fit for established businesses generating between $200,000 and $2 million in annual revenue.

What We Help You Stay On Top Of
Every business has different bookkeeping needs.
That’s why we take the time to understand your business before providing a clear quote.
We keep your business income and expenses organized and make sure the bookkeeping reflects what’s actually happening in the business.
Income & Expenses
We keep your current GST records current, prepare and file your returns and make sure the amounts reported tie back to your books.
GST
If you operate through a corporation, money moving between you and the business needs to be recorded properly. We keep salary, dividends and shareholder transactions organized so the books accurately reflect what you’ve taken from or put into the company.
Paying Yourself
Business & Personally Paid Expenses
Not every business expense is paid directly from the business account. If you’ve paid business expenses personally, we make sure they’re captured and recorded properly so they aren’t missed.
We keep the bookkeeping ready for year-end and help take care of the accounting and tax work that follows.
Year-End & Tax
Current books give you a much clearer picture of revenue, expenses and what the business is actually earning.
Financial Information
We’ll recommend the bookkeeping frequency that’s right for your business and provide a clear quote before any work begins.
Support is always included—it’s simply part of how we work.
Support That Goes Beyond the Books
Good bookkeeping isn't just about getting transactions into QuickBooks. It's about making sure nothing important gets missed.
We’re thorough in how we work. We look for business expenses paid personally, transactions that may have been missed, balances that don't make sense and other details that deserve a closer look.
That matters at tax time. A legitimate business expense that never makes it into the books is a deduction that may never make it onto the tax return.
We want the books to be right — and we don't want you paying more tax simply because something was overlooked.
Sometimes you also just need someone to call.
Should I buy this through the company? Is this a business expense? What happens if I hire someone? Why is my tax bill higher this year?
We get to know your business over time, so when questions come up, you can call us, talk them through and get practical advice based on what's actually going on in your business.
Sole Proprietor or Corporation?
A lot of consultants start out as sole proprietors. Then the business grows and eventually the question comes up:
Should I incorporate?
There isn't a revenue number where the answer suddenly becomes yes.
How much the business earns matters, but so does how much money you need personally, whether you're able to leave profits in the company, your tax situation and where the business is headed.
If you're considering incorporation, we'll help you understand what actually changes and talk through the accounting and tax considerations with you.
And if you're already incorporated, we'll look after the additional bookkeeping, accounting and tax work that comes with running a company.
The right structure depends on the business and the person behind it.
Behind On Your Bookkeeping?
It happens. When you're busy doing client work, your own bookkeeping is often the easiest thing to put off.
Whether you're a few months behind or haven't dealt with the books in several years, we'll help you figure out where things stand, what records we need and what needs to be done to get everything current.
You don't need to clean everything up before contacting us. We'll tell you what we need and take it from there.
Support That Fits the Way You Work
Not every consulting business needs monthly bookkeeping. The right frequency depends on the number of transactions, how the business operates and how current you need the financial information to be.
Annual
For simpler businesses that need their bookkeeping completed for year-end and tax filing.
Semi-Annual
Bookkeeping twice a year for businesses that want their records updated during the year without needing quarterly or monthly service.
Quarterly
A good fit for many established consultants who want their books kept reasonably current and their GST and financial information easier to stay on top of.
Monthly
Ongoing bookkeeping and support for active businesses that want their books kept consistently up to date.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. We work with both. The bookkeeping and tax requirements are different, so the support is based on how your business is structured and what you actually need.
-
Not necessarily. Some consultants only need annual or semi-annual bookkeeping, while others are better suited to quarterly or monthly support. We’ll recommend a schedule based on the business rather than automatically putting you on a monthly plan.
-
Yes. We can keep the GST records current and prepare the returns as part of your bookkeeping support.
-
We can help you understand the accounting and tax considerations and talk through how incorporation would change the way your business is handled. Whether incorporation makes sense depends on your particular circumstances.
-
Yes. For incorporated clients, we can help keep salary, dividends and shareholder transactions recorded properly and discuss the accounting and tax considerations around how money is taken from the company.
-
That’s common. We make sure personally paid business expenses are captured in the bookkeeping so legitimate business expenses aren’t missed simply because they weren’t paid from the business bank account or credit card.
-
That’s fine. We can take care of the catch-up bookkeeping first and then determine what level of ongoing support makes sense.
-
For incorporated businesses, we look after the bookkeeping and year-end preparation and work with a CPA partner for the corporate tax return when required.
-
Yes. We work with both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop. We generally prefer QuickBooks Online, but we regularly support businesses using QuickBooks Desktop as well.
